I have been enjoying the website but am saddened to see the information regarding the parents of Thomas Boggs Chilton and Thomas Coot Chilton shown incorrectly. Judge and Marjory did not claim these as the parents but gave possibilities of what others had written. I am a descendant of Martha Bell Chilton which connects to both Thomas Boggs Chilton and Thomas Coot Chilton. Thomas Boggs Chilton was the son of Mark Chilton (and named his first two children after his mother and father) and Thomas Coot Chilton was the son of Thomas (who is listed incorrectly as the father of Thomas Boggs.) This error has been multiplied many times over without investigation of when and where the two Thomas Chiltons were in relationship to documents like the Will of Thomas Chilton. Ages and years of birth do not connect and it becomes very clear that the two Thomas Chiltons are listed with the wrong parents. Hope this will help others connected to the Chiltons. And as a side note, I am included in the Chilton Book.

I agree with Diana - Thomas Boggs Chilton was the son of Mark Chilton and Clementine Burn; this is the preponderance of evidence. His first daughter was named Clementine. His first son named Mark. His two sons from his sdecond marriage with Betsy McCain were named Andrew and Matthias. Thomas Boggs Chilton's son Thomas Jefferson Chilton named a daughter Clementine.

"CHILTON (CHELTON), Mark (b. 1754). Lived in Sugarland Hd. in 1776 [Ref:K-1:206]. Private, Flying Camp, enlisted July 18, 1776 [Ref: D-49]. Private, 8th Co., Upper Bn., Militia, Aug. 30, 1777 [Ref: M-195]. "Marke Chilton" took the Oath of Allegiance (made his "X" mark) before the Hon. Aneas Campbell on March 2, 1778 [Ref: T-3:68, L-1:39]. "Mark Chelton" married Clenentia Barn [Barns or Burn?] in Montgomery County on June 17, 1779 [Ref: K-2:513],"

Also there is an early Maryland record showing a Matthias Byrn age 33 with Patrick age 1, Martha Ann 22, (his family?), Mary age 50 (his mother?), Catherine 22, Clementina 18, Mary 15, Verlinder 13. I believe the James that married 2nd Catherine was Mark's brother.

I hope this adds credence to Mark as father of Thomas Boggs Chilton and is of helpful to those with an interest in the Chilton family in the Revolutionary War. The Flying Camps were interesting to read about - sort of a colonial national guard.

In the book Missouri the Center State 1821-1915, author Walter Barlow Stevens gives biographies of many high profile men at that time. In his biography of J. William Chilton, he states the Chiltons came from seven brothers from Wales who fought under General Burgoyne and were captured at Ticonderoga and were held in West Virginia. They liked the area so well that after the war, they decided to stay. Some went to TN and TX but most ended up in Missouri. Nowhere in the research I have seen tells of this or indicates they were from Wales. I can only think that the author must have interviewed the individuals he wrote about to get their history and this must have been something he was told. Has anyone else heard of this story? I descend from Susannah Chilton (dau of Shadrach and Patsy) who married William T. Orchard.
